Famous Models. Speedmaster (Man on the Moon) In 1965, after blind testing several brands' chronographs NASA selected the Omega Speedmaster moonwatch as the official watch of the manned space flights.

Omega's 'Speedmaster Professional went on to accompany all manned space flights and in 1970 it contributed to saving the lives of the astronauts of the crippled Apollo 13 shuttle. Commander Lovell used his Omega Speedmaster to time the 1/10th of a second firing of the secondary rockets taking the ship out of lunar orbit on a trajectory back to Earth. In recognition of this, Omega were awarded NASA'a highest distinction - the "Snoopy Award".

Modern Marques. Omega De Ville Co-Axial In 1999 the new Omega De Ville was introduced with a movement that was entirely new to an Omega series produced watch. The elegant De Ville: Co-Axial watch with the magnificent coaxial escapement invented by the noted English watchmaker Dr. George Daniels, is highly accurate, resistant to shocks and requires little maintenance.

In brief, the coaxial escapement eliminates practically all friction between the pallets wheel and the pallets, which had long been a source of lubrication problems in mechanical watches. The result is a longer lifetime for the movement and its increased accuracy.
